Each year the Oscars’ red carpet fashion boasts some of the awards season’s most memorable couture looks. This year was no exception. From color to style to materials and theme, here are some of the design trends we noticed on the red carpet that are making their way into home decor as well.
Glitter Head to Toe
There’s never any shortage of glamour on the red carpet but this year showed a particularly flashy type of glam: head to toe shimmer and diamonds. From the body contouring reflectivity of J. Lo, Brie Larson, and Molly Sims’ gowns to the traditional full shirts of Kelly Rippa and Michelle Yeoh, each of these blingy gowns screamed Hollywood glamour!

Finding Your Lighting!
At Lori Dennis Inc. we sure do love sparkle! The best way to introduce some glam into your home is with a good lighting plan. A gorgeous chandelier is a great place to start. And where do you hang a chandelier? We say anywhere there’s a ceiling! Starting with the decorative lighting can be fun, but don’t forget you need a good source of general lighting and lastly, sneak in some accent lighting like the picture lights we installed here to highlight architectural or decorative details in the space.

Mirrored & Metallic Furniture
Another way to turn up the glam is with mirrored and metallic accents. In this closet, we had mirrored walls to work with and lots of awesome natural light, which we highlighted even more with a mirrored vanity and silver finishes.
Color Blocked and Monochrome Black & White
Black & White is classic and there’s a reason it never goes out of style. These color blocked and monochromatic looks, when done right, really show off the design of the dress itself and are incredibly cinematic.

Monochromatic Palettes Highlight Elegant Lines
Use a monochromatic palette in your home to highlight the lines – in this Bel Air bedroom, everything is black and white with an occasional golden pop (like the Oscar statue of the room). When the focus isn’t on the color, it’s on the shape and style. The brush strokes of the abstract artwork contrast with the rigid cross stitch pattern of the bed.

Monochromatic Palettes to Highlight Shapes
Similarly, in this walk-in closet, we used a black and white palette with some pops of gold to contrast curvier shapes with square.
Masculine & Retro
There was quite a bit of gender bending on this year’s red carpet. Pant suits and structured blazers were seen on many starlettes and red carpet veterans and Billy Porter graced us with his tuxedo gown.

Yin & Yang in the Dining Room
Boxy, masculine, retro lines are also making their way into interiors. This dining room was the perfect balance of masculine and feminine, with a palette of white and grays. White tuxedo dining chairs flank either side of the round dining table. A mirror-lined wall bounces around the light from the glass chandelier and everything in the space serves to highlight the Los Angeles views outside.

Midcentury style seating and sturdy four-poster beds and statement lighting: We searched for pieces that felt like formal staples, like a fine bespoke tuxedo.
Sleek Masculine Style in the Closet
This closet was designed for a super stylish bachelor in Santa Monica.The dark wood and sleek silver finishes give the space its retro, fashion-forward look, reminiscent of a luxurious hotel suite closet.
Frilly & Feminine
On the other end of the spectrum, there was no shortage of over-the-top frilly, feminine looks. Lots of tulle and hot pink, chintzy floral prints, and ballerina style on this year’s red carpet.

Tulle and pom-pom’s and frill – it’s making a comeback, big time! It’s unapologetically feminine and perfect for a girl’s bedroom or modern lounge.

A delicate chandelier, pastel pink walls, and floral print bedding. Less you forget this isn’t your grandma’s chintzy guest bedroom, there’s a cool lucite desk to update the space and give it a subtle bit of edge.
Boho Babe Bedroom Inspired by Red Carpet Fashion
By contrast, this bedroom is quintessential Los Angeles boho style, complete with pretty pink accents and prints, but nonetheless fun, feminine, and full of spunk.
Red Carpet Fashion: Sunny Shades and Playful Pastels
It seems this red carpet was ready for Spring because much of the carpet adorned an Easter palette. Sunny canary yellow could be seen on such stars as Constance Wu and Maria Menounos, dusty pinks on Lisa Bonet and Marie Kondo, and eggshell blues on Elaine Walteroth and Charlize Theron.

Designing this home office was all about creating a space to stimulate creativity. Golds and blues and textures and prints made this a space the homeowner could work in all day long and stay happy and focused.
Large Scale, Colorful Artwork and Cozy Textiles…
That’s what made this family room a great entertaining space. The space still has luxe textiles and glimmering gold accents, but the Spring color palette keeps this otherwise formal living room warm and inviting.
