When devoted environmentalist Chef Jeffrey Mora wanted to remodel his home, he had two visions in mind: that it feel like the Inn at Carmel and that it be “green.” When long time interior designer Lori Dennis and her team were finished, Chef Mora had a residence that went way beyond his expectations and gave new meaning to the phrase “green with envy.” Chef Mora hired Lori Dennis to remodel his 4,000 square foot Los Angeles home based on her green expertise, environmentally friendly vision and her willingness to work with him according to his guidelines.

Here are a few things Chef Mora did in his home that you can do too.

  • Solar Control Window Film
  • Reclaimed Hardwood
  • Low or Zero VOC Paint and Stains
  • Natural Materials Such As Stone or Wood in Bathrooms and Kitchens
  • Using Color Corrected Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs
  • Plant Yards and Gardens with Indigenous Plants, Flowers, Bushes and Trees
  • Building Trellises Near South or West Facing Windows Reduces Harsh Afternoon Sun.

Environmentally and Socially Friendly Fabrics are made in sustainable ways, with the least impact on our environment and fewer pollutants flowing into our water from the manufacturing process. It makes for a much more pleasant afternoon of lounging on your sofa knowing a four-year-old child didn’t go blind making the fabric.

Buy as many Used Items as Possible For Decoration From Flea Markets and Yard Sales. In addition to looking absolutely charming, they are less expensive than buying new and doing this prevents these items from winding up in a landfill.

Donate Recycled Materials (Toilets, Sinks, Wood, Fixtures, Doors, Etc.) To Needy People In The Community. You prevent these items from being put into landfills, help your neighbors and can probably get a tax deduction at the same time!

Replacing Old Water Heater Tanks With The New Tankless Ones provides instant hot water. No more waiting for the water to get hot means you don’t waste water (money). There is also no need for the heater to stay on all the time which wastes energy (money).
